I gotta get this one off the chest. I was reading that "Pakistani government officials announced Monday an agreement with the Taliban to allow strict Islamic law, or sharia, to be implemented in parts of North West Frontier Province." http://bit.ly/y9TuC

I live in the land where Dr. Donnis Thompson helped to usher in a new era for womenʻs equality, athletics and to spur on the next generation in encouraging and feeding that ever wanting need for education in our system, in our lives. Where Title IX was brought forth by the efforts of Hawaii Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink in 1972. Where everyday this battle rages on across the globe in the equality of women and men...even in our land where all are suppposed to be equal.

Sharia law is really fundamentalist Islamic law, violently against women, where they refuse to let females to go to school, to go out, and reduces them to slaves basically "by our standards". They are beheading those that are involved with schools for girls.

I realize this is a POV piece, but itʻs one I cannot be silent about. The fact that the Pakistani Government sits with the Taliban...I know our President would like to sit and talk (under the right conditions) with North Korea, China and Iran; but I cannot find myself to think that more and more areas will spread with the influence of these people.

I usually donʻt like speaking about things I do not know about or experience first hand, but this one scares me.

I am scared to think that I am becoming like those in a generation before me; scared of those they donʻt know, that you donʻt try to understand others and merely judge by heresay. But by what I read, by what I see on TV on accounts that I read from press and non-press; in my opinion it would be better to let the military take care of this small sect of extremists.

...and donʻt get me wrong. I refuse to label all muslims or those that choose to follow Islam in this manner. I have good friends that are one or both, and I wouldnʻt trade them for the world for they are wonderful people. But even they are scared of this extremist group.
