Hello,

I am 54 years old now, but my first exposier to Hawaiian music was when I was 14. My family loved watching the old TV show Hawaii 50 and I can remember hearing Hawaiian music on that show (especially Don Ho). It sparked a desire in me to learn more about Hawaii. I bought several books on Hawaii and studied them in depth to learn as much as I could. I even took some of the money I earned from doing odd jobs and allowance and bought a Sunday only subscription to the Star-Bulletin (might have been called something else back then). I wanted to live in Hawaii so bad, I sent for information on getting a drivers license and would devour every inch of the newspaper. I hoped to come there when I graduated from High School.

But I enlisted in the US Air Force my Senior year and ended up spending a tour in Vietnam/Thailand (71-72). The airplane I was on leaving Travis AFB landed at Honolulu Airport (it was a comercial airline) and I only had enough time to see the sunset before I had to get back onboard. I have never been able to get there since due to one thing or another.

With the internet, I am able to watch the news from KHNL TV8. I still have the burning desire to come to Hawaii, but I don't know if I will ever make it. But listening to Hawaiian music brings me a little closer to Hawaii. I listen to Hawaiian105 KINE while surfing the net.

I envy all of you who get to live there. I live in Indiana and right now (Feb. 28) it is in the teens and there is snow on the ground.

God Bless you all! Hope to see you there one day!

Dwight S.
