Oh my goodness
it was 1978 in Kona and Gabby Pahinui came to some restaurant / bar called the Tradewinds to play and did he play... it went till late, late, late and in Kona this was unheard of... there was spontaneous hula, random musicians joining and my wife asked him to play Moonlight Lady and he played...
S0 jump ahead 27 years to Waikiki... when I am a now a tourist on the terrace of the Queen Kapiolani hotel at sunset and Martin Pahinui, Leonard Kwan, Aaron Mahi and some other local guy who played steel guitar are sounding suspiciously like Pops did... no wonder. It's a Pahinui on stage and I got to tell Martin about meeting his Dad in Kona what feels about 100 years ago. Martin thanked me for honoring his Dad and now in Lake Ontario in New York on any day of the week it's Hawaiian Music playing on top my radio...
OK , nuff for now.
Mahalos...
