I lived on the islands in the late 70s.
Shooting pool with a friend in Honolulu late one night a brotha walked in with a rather cute date. I remarked to my friend that it looked like one of the Beamer Brothers. I can't remember which one as its been almost 30 years. I leaned on a table while my friend was shooting and began to whistle Mr. Sun Cho Lee. Da Beamer guy immediately looked at me and smiled.
There is a greater point here, however. The message of the song, we can all get along here, the Aloha Spirit, is the reason I intend to move back to the islands when I retire next year. I hope I can return, teach school for a few years, and learn more about this place. Hawaiian 105 KINE plays on my computer here in Ohio 4 or 5 hours a day while I work.
Thanks for bringing the wonderful island music to me in the Midwest. Always a reminder of the people and Aloha I miss so much.
