Aloha!

About 15 years ago, I had a health problem that was potentially life-threatening. I was only in my 20's at the time, and needless to say, I was very frightened. My doctor said that keeping positive and not stressing myself out with worry was important for my recovery. At the time, I only really listened to rock and heavy metal, which doesn't do a whole lot to calm one down.

One day, while over at my parent's house, I looked through my father's music collection and decided to give some of his Hawaiian music a listen (my dad has been playing the ukulele since the 1950's). I was amazed at the calming effect it had on me. Similar to what comedian/musician Steve Martin says: "it's impossible to play the banjo when you are upset" - the ukulele had the same effect on me. I credit the beautiful voices and playing of Dennis Pavao (we miss you brah!), the Ho'opi'i Brothers and the Pandanus Club for helping me get through my crisis. I don't know if I can say that it saved my life, but it sure helped! I made a full recovery and am now a ok. I have also expanded my collection of Hawaiian music, listen to Hawaiian105 KINE over the internet every day while at work and when I'm on Oahu, I set the radio to 105 and break off the knob. Thanks for running the best radio station on the planet and for making it available to us haoles on the mainland.
