Finally I moved to Kauai in 1970, having dreamed/remembered/seen it since earliest childhood.

One nite while listening to the radio I heard Kaulana Na Pua and being new to the islands, I had no knowledge of the meaning or the translation yet I found myself sobbing uncontrollably. This happened the first dozen or more times I heard this heart wrenching song. That was the beginning of my heart knowing what my mind didn't.

Now I think I have become a "grandma groupie" as I fly to Hnl every couple of months to hear my beloved favorite Jerry Santos. This Friday, Kelii Kanealii is coming to my living room to put on a private "Auntie Miki" concert since I have just had bilateral knee replacements and cannot drive to hear him.

How has Hawaiian music impacted my life? It soothes my soul, bursts my heart into smiles and generally confirms that I am home.
