I was in the Honolulu Police Department as a Cadet when a Police officer had passed away. His name was Bernard Kahapea.
The brotherhood of the Police Department decided to have a fundraiser in Waimanalo. This is where I was priviledged enough to meet Gabby "Pops" Pahinui and his sons. They sang a tribute to the fallen officer and at that point, I had a new found respect and appreciation for Hawaiian Music. Although, I did listen to a lot of Hawaiian music before then. It was just the thought of meeting a real legend in Hawaiian music and entertainment. I will always remember that moment.
