It started in 1967 when I moved here.
I was drawn here by something, what I don't know. But I fell in love with Hawaiian music. I think the first song I heard was Aloha 'Oe. I started listening to various artists and decided to learn hula. When I dance hula, it takes me to a special place, soothes my heart/soul, makes me appreciate the beauty of the aina and the culture.
Then I returned to the mainland, big mistake, and returned home to Hawaii several years later. With my work schedule, I don't have time for a halau right now, so I choreograph my own hula's and recently did one of the most beautfiul songs ever recorded - Nani Na Pali Hauliuli O Na Ko'olau by Hoku Zuttermeister.
This young man is awesome and I just love looking at the Ko'olau's with the mist hovering overhead. And now when I dance it, I really feel as though I'm there.
Aloha,
Roni (Kanoe) D.
